DIGITAL MEDIA

 

Call for art works for online exhibition

Step Online is a brand new website designed to promote UK based Asian art/artists new to exhibiting on the web. To mark the 60th anniversary of India’s Independence, visual artists using digital media are invited to submit work that explores Indian culture and history and /or themes of independence. The Step Online project will showcase a series of curated themes and is run by the Asian Arts Agency in partnership with Watershed. Step Online are looking for artwork using digital media as a main medium in its creation or delivery. This could be in the form of video and moving image work, still photography, animation, interactive art, audiovisual, cross artforms (eg. dance on camera). They are open to many art forms providing the use of digital media is integral to the work (as opposed to simply documentation of it). For further information see www.asianartsagency.co.uk

 

CAN Film Festival & Creative LeicesterShire Film Award

Submission period for CAN2007 Leicester International Short Film Festival is from 1 April to 1 August 2007. The judges are looking for films from all over the world, of any genre and by filmmakers of any age. Submission is free and you can enter as many films as you like. Creative LeicesterShire are sponsoring an award as part of the Festival for the most promising film-maker from Leicestershire or Rutland. The award will be £500 to spend on training, equipment or marketing. To download the submission form and submit your film visit www.lineout.org. The Creativity Conversation

A 2-day symposium exploring creativity on the 11th and 12th June 2007 at the Institute Of Creative Technologies: De Montfort University, Leicester. Creativity is a fundamental human attribute, critical to cultural and economic well-being yet it is still mysterious in many ways.  This symposium brings together leading thinkers together with delegates from varied backgrounds to consider some key questions such as; What is creativity?, How can technology help us to understand creativity?, What part can technology play in the creative process?, What can creativity research offer industry?. Summer Art and Craft Markets - Hinckley

This year the Art and Craft Markets return to Castle Street, Hinckley.  This will be a great opportunity for artists to promote and sell their work. The market will take place on Thursday 17 May and Thursday 21 June from 9.30am in Castle Street, Hinckley. Stalls cost £22.50 and are covered.  Set up from 7.30 am. Workshop Leaders Wanted

Visual arts workshop leaders are wanted to run ‘adult beginner’ classes, taster sessions or give innovative talks to adult groups in August 07 – June 08. Public Art Evaluation Toolkit Workshops

Wednesday 23 May, Birmingham. In response to Government’s evidence-based approach to the development and implementation of policy, ixia and OPEN space at Edinburgh College of Art and Heriot-Watt University have designed a toolkit for evaluating the impact of public art. Intended for use by all stakeholders in a public art commission, the overall aim is to increase mutual awareness of diverse agendas and desired outcomes of a public art commission. Two tools have been developed: the matrix and personal project analysis. The workshop is intended for artists and collaborators, funders and commissioners across all disciplines engaged in public art. Cost: £185. Selling opportunities for Artists & Makers

Leicester City Council would like to hear from artists & makers who would like to sell their work by having a stall at festivals & events in the City. They have a list of companies and individuals that they notify of various festivals & events throughout the year and would welcome others to send in their details. Open Day and Celebration for the 10th Anniversary of Northfield Farm and Farm Shop

Artists & Makers are invited to set up stalls at the Open Day & 10th Anniversary Celebrations of Northfield Farm & Farm Shop on Saturday 30th June, 10am – 3pm. The Farm is in Cold Overton, nr. Oakham, Rutland. This is intended to be a high profile event, Clarissa Dickson-Wright will be there doing book signings. Our trading terms are 10% of takings, with no booking fee - though we do appreciate a firm undertaking to turn up, as we have been let down at the last minute on several occasions. Ashby Arts Festival 2007

Ashby de la Zouch Leicestershire, August 3rd-12th. Visual artists are invited to exhibit their work in one of our town centre venues. This is a great opportunity to showcase work; graduates last year were able once again to exhibit large-scale degree show work in excellent artist led spaces. More traditional work is also on show and all work is offered for sale. This year we are particularly interested in site-specific art made for areas in our town. Multilingual Poetry Reading

Mehfil-e-shayeri is the multi-lingual poetry group based in Leicester which celebrates the first anniversary of its interactive website www.mehfil-e-shayeri.org  in June. decibel Performing Arts Showcase - Bursary scheme for delegates from East Midlands

Monday 3 - Friday 7 September 2007, Birmingham. Decibel Performing Arts Showcase 2007 will present some of the very best performing artists and companies of African, Asian and Caribbean descent based in England. Delegates will be able to watch world class performances, personally meet and engage with artists and network with peers from around the world. There will be opportunities not only to share knowledge but also to develop further engagement with culturally diverse work. A limited number of bursaries are available to assist individuals and small organisations to attend the event in Birmingham up to 50% of the cost of registration, travel and accommodation. Fantastic Opportunity to perform at The Royal Festival Hall and work with Lea Anderson

Lea Anderson and her two companies The Chomondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs are working on a national project, based on Flag (first performed at the Royal Festival Hall in 1988), which will bring together inter-generational groups of dancers to perform at the Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 9 June. There will be a series of rehearsals throughout May and June with a member from The Chomondeleys or The Featherstonehaughs before the performance event on 9 June. FASHION & TEXTILES OPPORTUNITIES

 

Support for SME Textile Businesses in Leicestershire

TEAM is involved with three funded projects Smartex, TekTex and Innotex and these operate within Leicestershire, East Midlands and Europe. The aim of Smartex is to provide support to SME textile businesses within Leicestershire to help them develop. This could be as simple as checking fabric compositions to ensure that labelling is correct through to provide design and production advice. We offer training where required and run short workshops targeting specific areas ranging from setting up an e-mail, web pages to stock control, accounting and e-commerce. Big creative opportunities in Hinckley

21 June, 6.30pm, the Atkins Building, Bond St, Hinckley. The Atkins Building, a former hosiery factory in the centre of Hinckley, has been purchased for creative workspace. The 45,000 square foot building was bought by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council with funding from the East Midlands Development Agency and refurbishment is being planned. Creative Hinckley is a group of local creatives who will help steer the artists/not-for-profit part of the workspace. Come and see the building in its current state, meet other local creatives, get involved with the Creative Hinckley group and find out about plans. A Review Of The Evidence For The Effectiveness Of Arts In Health

Leadership Development Days – Powerbrokers Strand, Cultural Leadership Programme (Clp)

The virtual absence of managers from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds employed in leading, decision-making positions in cultural institutions across the UK is a widely acknowledged failing of the arts and cultural sectors. Powerbrokers is based on the conviction that, whilst it is essential that people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds are fully represented in the overall Cultural Leadership Programme, there are significant areas of specificity that require direct action.
