Uppingham Theatre Performing Arts Platform

Uppingham Theatre is offering slots for local musicians, dancers and theatre practitioners to perform in a new strand of Platform performances. The Platform will showcase the work of semi-professional performers from Rutland/Leicestershire and is part of the Oakham/Uppingham Festival taking place at the end of June/beginning of July. The Peoples Theatre

Devising, scriptwriting and rehearsals have now begun on Tuesday evenings (6pm - 8pm) at Loughborough Town Hall.
The newly formed 'Peoples Theatre' is still looking for new members who would like to be part of this local heritage project funded by Charnwood Borough Council.  Actors, writers, musicians, stage managers (no experience necessary) all welcome. Opportunity to show new work!

This April Loughborough Town Hall is staging Runway - its third platform evening for new performers and artists from around the area. They are interested in receiving submissions from anyone who works in any performance art form.  Maybe you have an exciting new dance that needs a stage or perhaps you are a keen playwright?  Previous entries have also included film, digital media and music. Selected entries will be given the stage for part of this fantastic evening. The venue will support you with technical help and marketing and the rest is up to you. The Royal Academy of Arts and the BBC are planning a second series of progammes about the Summer Exhibition to transmit in June 2007. Beyond the Studio: One-to-One Surgeries for Artists

Wed 18 April, 10am - 6pm, Nottingham, free - Booking essential. An Angel Row Gallery/Accelerator event. You've made your work and now you need to take it out into the world and make it public.  How do you translate your practice into a gallery exhibition? What do you need and who can help you? Emerging artists are offered the opportunity to meet with gallery curators and technical staff to receive individual tailored advice. Artists stalls/workshops available at Loughborough Streets Alive

Streets Alive will take place on 28 May and Charnwood Borough Council and Charnwood Arts work together to create many events and activities that take place throughout the day.  This includes stalls, amusements and a wide variety of street entertainment and over 8,000 visitors come to the event.  The arts team is very keen to promote arts and crafts and give designers an opportunity to exhibit, promote and sell their work, and are asking artists, designers and crafts people if they would be interested in holding a stall or running a workshop or demonstration. John Grace Memorial Conference - The Art of British CGI

Decibel New Prize

Penguin Books and decibel, Arts Council England are inviting writers to submit non-fiction personal accounts of the experience of immigration to the UK for this competition. The winning authors will see their stories published in a Penguin anthology.  Competition entries must be; between 1000 and 5000 words in length, non-fiction personal accounts of the experience of immigration to the UK, and aimed at an adult readership. There is no age limit for authors, who must not have had a full-length book published. The closing date for entries is Monday 2 April, and the successful authors will be announced in early June. Creative Industries Courses for Young People

Arts Worker needed for Arts & Older People Project

An experienced arts worker is required to carry out a pilot project around creating a menu of arts activity for older people in the Charnwood Borough of Leicestershire. The pilot will involve consultation with older people & service providers as well as co-ordinating/facilitating sessions of arts activity. The pilot will be evaluated with a view to creating a longer-term model by which older people will select their preferred arts & cultural activity & use ‘direct payments’ (a government initiative) to pay for their involvement in this rather than attending day care centres. The contract will be offered on a self-employed basis, £3,000 for 30 days. Expressions of interest are currently being sought. Interviews will take place before 16th February. Creative Partnerships Leicestershire seeks Creative Partners!

Leicestershire Children and Young People’s Service would like to invite creative and cultural practitioners to become partners in the Leicestershire Creative Partnership Regional Programme based within a selection of Leicestershire schools. They aim to link creative practitioners with schools working to develop partnership projects. The programme will develop in line with current Creative Partnerships programmes and aim to support the needs of schools. The partnership and development work will begin in March 2007 and the first creative learning projects in schools should be completed by mid July 2007. Creative Partnerships Leicester - Action Research Group Co-ordinator: Early Years

Creative Partnerships Leicester helps children and young people build their creativity, ambition, knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on their worlds. This post will help expand their programme and work with new education settings by developing work in one of Leicester’s priority areas. The post will be funded by a grant. Funded activities will start from 1 March 2007 and will run until 31 August 2007 in the first instance. Selection is by a two-stage process. The first stage invites you to submit an expression of interest and, if shortlisted, attend an interview. The second stage invites the preferred applicant(s) to prepare a detailed grant proposal in response to consultation already undertaken. Freedom Showcase: A Literature Network project

The Freedom Showcase will take place on Thursday 19 July at Phoenix Arts, Leicester & will feature emerging and professional writers from the three cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.  Each will have been commissioned to create new work specially for this event, working through an intensive development process with mentors and a project director. This innovative project requires a passionate, creative and artistic team to deliver an unmissable cultural event:

- Writers (x 9): £1,000 fee. To be considered for a commission you must perform at an open mic on 7 or 21 Feb, or a date in March.

- Director: £3,000 inclusive fee

- Mentors (x 2): £2,000 inclusive fee.
