Midlands Textile Forum
Midlands Textile Forum is a group of artists, designers and makers who have come together to promote textiles, raise awareness and standards, widen participation, develop opportunities, education, heritage and research. Amongst the group so far there are; artists, designers, makers, professionals, amateurs, academics, practitioners, curators etc. We have agreed on a launch in the form of a symposium and an exhibition with follow on events. Two of our members are putting together a bid for funding for the launch. It is early days but we are a very proactive group who meet regularly to develop the Midlands Textile Forum, bringing together both West & East Midlands. See www.midlandstextileforum.com

Summer Courses at the Richard Attenborough Centre
You can book for summer creative learning courses at The Richard Attenborough Centre until Friday 13 April. The Centre, part of the University of Leicester, runs a range of weekly sessions for anything from five to ten weeks on a wide variety of arts subjects, from painting, jewellery making and sculpture, to digital photography, literature, singing, jazz and Latin American Dance. There are also special workshops such as a day with Commedia dell'Arte practitioner Antonio Venturino and evening talks. Beyond the Studio: One-to-One Surgeries for Artists
Wednesday 18 April, 10am - 6pm, Nottingham, free - Booking essential. An Angel Row Gallery / Accelerator event. You've made your work and now you need to take it out into the world and make it public. How do you translate your practice into a gallery exhibition? What do you need and who can help you? Emerging artists are offered the opportunity to meet with gallery curators and technical staff to receive individual tailored advice. Surgeries are 45-minute sessions which must be booked in advance. Summer Art and Craft Markets - Hinckley
This year the Art and Craft Markets return to Castle Street, Hinckley. This will be a great opportunity for artists to promote and sell their work. The market will take place on Thursday 17 May and Thursday 21 June from 9.30am in Castle Street, Hinckley. Stalls cost £22.50 and are covered. Set up from 7.30 am.

Public Art Evaluation Toolkit Workshops
Wednesday 23 May, Birmingham. In response to Government’s evidence-based approach to the development and implementation of policy, ixia and OPEN space at Edinburgh College of Art and Heriot-Watt University have designed a toolkit for evaluating the impact of public art. Intended for use by all stakeholders in a public art commission, the overall aim is to increase mutual awareness of diverse agendas and desired outcomes of a public art commission. Two tools have been developed: the matrix and personal project analysis. The workshop is intended for artists and collaborators, funders and commissioners across all disciplines engaged in public art. Cost: £185. Ashby Arts Festival – Visual Arts Opportunities in August
Building on last summer's success, this year’s Ashby Arts Festival will include open studios, workshop opportunities, exhibitions and an open competition etc during August 3-12. Selling opportunities for Artists & Makers
Leicester City Council would like to hear from artists & makers who would like to sell their work by having a stall at festivals & events in the City. They have a list of companies and individuals that they notify of various festivals & events throughout the year and would welcome others to send in their details. Please write in with a description of what you sell and if possible a picture of your stall /

Calling all young writers: Momentum Festival
Theatre Writing Partnership (TWP) is inviting young writers aged 16 to 26 to submit plays for the next Momentum Festival. The festival will be held at Lakeside Arts Centre, from 21st August to 1st September, and will showcase the most promising work by young playwrights from the East Midlands. For a chance to see your work come to life in the hands of professional actors and directors, send a play by 30th April. Your play must be a one-act play, no longer than 45 minutes, and it should be possible to perform it using no more than three actors. Between now and the festival, TWP are running several young writers’ groups across the region, led by dramaturgs and playwrights to support you in the development of your play. Anima Dance - Auditions

Forest Folk Country Fairs is a new Leicestershire initiative launching in May to celebrate the English countryside through its music, folk arts and food. They’d like to hear from musicians, performance poets and storytellers who’d like the chance of performing their work in public. It is intended that the Fairs will run throughout the Summer with each one being themed to a major event in the old agrarian calendar. BASS (British Arts and Street Sounds) Festival 2007 will celebrate black music and culture across the Midlands. June 2007 will see BASS Festival explode across the East Midlands. 2Funky Arts (Leicester), Baby J (Derby) and Hella Music (Nottingham) have come together to encourage unity across the THREE CITIES; which will be vibrant with live music, club nights, dance, theatre and arts workshops. BASS 2007 will continue to challenge perceptions of conventional programming and helping to broker new partnerships. The festival hopes to promote new art forms and black music whilst encouraging new and existing audiences to experience what the East Midlands’ urban music scene has to offer. Creative Hinckley
A steering group of creative practitioners and businesses is being sought to support the development of the Atkins Factory building on Lower Bond St, Hinckley. The building has recently been purchased by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for new creative workspace. An initial meeting will take place on Wednesday 18 April. As part of Leicester’s Creative Partnerships Programme, The City Gallery has been partnered with Imperial Avenue Infants School. We are currently looking for artists and creative practitioners to work on the following projects, which will take place during the Summer Term 2007. The virtual absence of managers from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds employed in leading, decision-making positions in cultural institutions across the UK is a widely acknowledged failing of the arts and cultural sectors. Powerbrokers is based on the conviction that, whilst it is essential that people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds are fully represented in the overall Cultural Leadership Programme, there are significant areas of specificity that require direct action. A series of Leadership Development Days will therefore take place at different locations until the end of June.
