WEA & Casterton Business and Enterprise College
Young Enterprise Scheme
During the month of November, Jerry Dunnicliff, on behalf of WEA, went into Casterton Business and Enterprise College to deliver some business workshops to the young students for the Young Enterprise scheme. Charlotte Darroch, their teacher, felt that Jerry and the workshops "really inspired them to be creative and [increased] their understanding of how a business works from the roots up".
The students attended their first trade fair on November 14th at the Arts Centre in Stamford. They unveiled their real company: "Casterton Comets". Student, Stephanie Ford had this to say about her day and the scheme:
"We are year 10 STAR students and we are studying Young Enterprise, we have set up a real company called ‘CASTERTON COMETS’ and we have made a range of ‘platypus’ themed stock including decorative pencil holders, rubbers, plaques and sharpeners. We hope to sell our products to make a profit. On Saturday 14 th November we went to the Young Enterprise trade fair at the art centre in Stamford.
We wowed the customers with our selling techniques and met other Young Enterprise groups from other schools. We were all a little scared at the thought of selling to the public but we used the skills that Jerry from Welland Enterprise taught us and once we started we loved it! The other students that helped on the day were Joe Wise, Samantha Durrant and from year 11, Anna Wilkinson, Ellie Robertson and Rosie Gilpin. Casterton Comets made £20.82 profit, we were really pleased as we went to gain experience. "
